I’m pleased to be able to announce that we have hired a new Chief Administrative Officer for the SCRD.
Dean McKinley is currently CAO with the District of Mackenzie. Previously he was the Director of Economic Development with the Northern Development Initiative Trust. (The equivalent organization here is ICET—Islands and Coastal Economic Trust.) For nine years he worked with senior staff in 50 local and regional governments, supporting and funding regional economic development projects across Northern and Central BC.
Dean and his wife Denise look forward to getting involved in the community and enjoying outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking and kayaking. He will start at the SCRD in January.
I’d just like to say how much I appreciated that Dean thoroughly researched our organization and our directors, and asked us some sharp questions before deciding that we were a board he’d want to work for. Running an organization like the SCRD is a big commitment and a very challenging role, so it’s important to establish strong, collaborative relationships right from the start.
In the meantime, our Interim CAO Mark Brown has been doing a great job keeping the train on the tracks while we carried out our search. He brings a warm, collegial attitude to the organization, and has been a great resource for board and staff.
