Geeking out on SCRD Population/Voting Strength

The handy chart below shows the population of the SCRD. Of extra interest, the horizonal gridlines by 2,000 population also illustrate weighted voting at the board table. In financial votes, each director gets one vote per 2,000 population. So the electoral areas each have 2 votes, the SNGD has 1, Gibsons has 3, and Sechelt has 6. Or to put it another way, each time the population bar on that chart crosses rises across a gridline, it adds one weighted vote.

Note that this doesn’t come up often. Only a few votes are weighted. And most board decisions are reached with a clear majority.
