On March 29 the SCRD received a letter from Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resources Operations and Rural Development, stating that BC Timber Sales will hold off with the auction of Block 1313, also known as the Reed Road Forest.
This is good news, although it’s by no means the end of the road. The SCRD and residents need to work together to find a permanent solution. I favour the SCCA’s recommendation to set up an Educational Forest.
I’d like to thank everyone who has helped work on this, including our MLA Nicholas Simons, SCRD board chair Lori Pratt and the rest of the board, the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association, Ross Muirhead from Elphinstone Logging Focus, and especially neighbours and other Elphinstone residents for standing up to protect this beautiful forest.
